Allianz is what was used when my parents traveled on my Dad’s last trip. He passed away overseas. The ins was great:
1. Helped expedite getting my Mother home – and paid for all flight changes and Hotel/meals.
2. Paid for my Father’s medical bills and cremation before also paying to return the ashes. They did not pay to get my Mother’s luggage back as it was “not lost”. DHL was the only international carrier we could use and that was a big hassle. Would have been much better to have lost it!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorKelly,
Sounds like you are doing a lot of the right things. Unfortunately it takes time in this business to gain traction. Why not figure out some key referral partners and ask them to meet for coffee. Help them understand what you are trying to do and get them to partner with you. One or two will “kick the tires” and then you should start chugging. But remember, you do not want a lot of new clients at once…each will need your attention more in the beginning and you will be learning and developing processes. Growing too fast is sometimes worse than not growing!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorUnder dominion, my employee is also covered…no extra cost! That means no need for bonding in my case as they are under my fiduciary coverage.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI brought a part time person on last Fall. I would suggest a background check. I have her working on the private pay clients with prior approval by them. I have not yet used her for any fiduciary type clients where I am appointed. However, she just picked up a trustee role herself. She is an employee and being paid hourly. We have talked about finders fees to further incent her.
I currently have my client files on two machines – one where we can both remote in and one where only I can access. I have been able to also segregate passwords through lastpass family version. We also have a shared emailbox so both of us see everything that would be coming to her. And we have a bill and todo tracking system that allows me to see tasks and bills company wide and she can just see hers.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorIt is one of a four part series. Call AADMM tomorrow and see if you can view it after the fact.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorEmily,
There is a webinar on just this topic tonight. If you cannot attend, I would call the office and see if you can listen to it after the fact. Other than that, you are a mandatory reporter and I would start with the bank. Further, there are pre-paid accounts that can be set up that limit where money is spent. If you are not insured as a fiduciary but instead for errors and omissions only, this is also something to consider changing. Finally, you may find that if there is not a trusted, capable 3rd party that knows what you are doing and what you are seeing, you may not be able to continue working with the clients. That would be sad but you need to protect your business as well. I always insure I have a trusted 3rd party engaged in my work whenever there is cognitive or visual impairment. And you want that relationship before you need it!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorTeri,
Great question. Yes there are a few things you should do differently from DMM services. First, I would explore a Fiduciary insurance policy instead of just E&O. And then I would sign up for the March webinar which addresses exactly this topic!
January 30, 2018 at 1:40 pm in reply to: ISO professional to help with Social Security Disability Benefits #12448Rita KuehnisSpectatorIn the past my clients have each used ALLSUP – this is a third party who walks everything through the process. It has been successful in each case. Not sure if you can just call them as these were long term disability clients for which the provider was wanting to stop paying!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorJulie,
It is doubtful that you will find anyone close. My associate and I can take on the client assuming it does not require monthly visits. May be able to arrange quarterly. However, we are about 2.5-3 hrs away in the Upstate. Assuming we can work with the nurse aide to coordinate things, this should be feasible. We currently serve one client out side of Columbia, another in GA and one in PA.
Please let me know if we can assist.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorRoxanne,
I did claim my business on google and that was when the calls started. I get several calls a week from SEO types across the country. So there are pros and cons to claiming the business!
I also had issues with Google not recognizing the common name for my bus street address. They wanted to call it “country road #…” instead. Many phone calls later, I gave up! I don’t live in a small town!!!
Signed,
Baffled BettyRita KuehnisSpectatorI have a mix of clients. Once trust is built, many don’t want to see me as it adds stress to their week. I work mostly remotely but am always offering reports to show that something is happening. I also am reaching out when exceptions happen. And I never way the bank statements as this is the client/family way to see the bank’s perspective on what I do.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI have a portion of my contract where I list the specific account access and the role I will play with that specific account. This way, the client is signing off on the scope of work, the accounts they are giving access to and what I will be doing all in one document.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI look at it this way – if you have two or more people involved who want to be members of AADMM, you join as an agency – there is a cost break associated with the members beyond an individual membership for each.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI have used lastpass for over a year. I have the premium version so I can use it from any device. Further, they just added a family option for no additional cost (promo) – this gives me the ability to provide my new employee access to a delegated portion of my vault. I retain control but she can use for supporting the client base.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorEvernote does what I need. Not so much a CRM but more an electronic record keeper.
