I initially used VZW version. Then went to nomorobo. Now VZW is offering at a lower rate than nomorobo. So I went back.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorThanks Thomas – your suggestions are all valid and have been tried. I think I will make the phone app solution work until Scan snap agrees to recognize this issue and find a solution. My time without a computer while it is rebuilt…is not feasible right now!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorVera – reboots work consistently for me but aren’t really feasible everytime I want to use it.
However since most of my use is for email, I can use my phone app to scan and then email the doc as needed. Takes laptop out of it and works well. Just a work around but worth a try for you!
Anyone else?
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI use LastPass and add the few clients that need it as family members. I have a folder for each client and share the folder w my assistant if she needs to be involved. I have also got folders I share w my child, husband and clients. I have the app on my phone and it is available via web browser from anywhere.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorThanks all for your suggestions. I tried several tools and found nothing to brag about. So I made it a searchable PDF and I hope that meets the atty’s needs.
FYI – Victoria, your answer gave me a chuckle. You are exactly right and I would have loved to have had online access. But since it is a fraud investigation, banks and teleco close ranks and will only provide data on paper!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI would love to learn more about what others are using. I signed up with ADP and have no real complaints except the cost!
Rita KuehnisSpectatorThanks Katherine – I agree that some oversight is needed. And the ASFP was attempted to make required several years ago but the rollout was poorly done and expensive!
FYI – for anyone interested, I have already completed 5 of the six courses. They were the smaller ones but full of good information as DMMs or as tax preparers.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorThanks Julianne. The one I am looking at is from CEU\ Self Study and includes some interesting topics that apply to us as DMMs as well. Cost is $79 for 18 hrs w exams…https://www.ceselfstudy.com/all-courses/
Rita KuehnisSpectatorIt was the web access I was referring to, sorry! I have not turned it on yet as it will require separate licenses for any client needing this access and I am finding several banks that do not play nice with the web access…so you are correct, it is not ready!
December 27, 2018 at 4:06 pm in reply to: What do I need to know as a DMM that I do not know about conservatorships? #12849Rita KuehnisSpectatorThe way the courts treat conservator banking relationships varies by state. If they require a restricted account, most banks use cashiers checks and require the conservator to present court documents showing court approval for withdrawing funds. In some cases, there is a smaller unrestricted account for which the bank moves money based on a pre-approved budget. That money must be used for the specific items in the budget like utilities and mortgages.
You could assist the client to set things up but I doubt the court would allow you to be delegated the authority for the above role. If client oversteps the delegated authority, they may be removed. I would hold a conference with the atty who represents the incapacitated adults as that person is to protect those people and also should have a clear understanding of what is being delegated and why.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorBB&T has been hassle free for me.
Rita KuehnisSpectatoranother option is to have someone from your “council on aging” assist.
Rita KuehnisSpectatorHum – number of hours per month is not how I bill but I will try to back into a number. My staff person is working about 30 per month and growing. I am working about 50-60 which would typically be billable. Marketing and Admin in addition. I love that I do not need to work full time! It allows me to do pro bono work, etc
Rita KuehnisSpectatorDo any of you involve more than one person and therefore the need to cover a common number?
Rita KuehnisSpectatorI was told early on that 20-25 clients would be the threshhold due to the need to customize what we do for each. This guide has held true and I have mostly seniors but also some younger with spending issues. Further, I have branched into more fiduciary work with Trusts, POA and Conservator appointments – these require more paperwork and logistics but can be more lucretive. I would not attempt any true fiduciary efforts without multiple years of experience.
At the 8 yr mark, I hit 25 clients and brought on a second person to handle the day to day so I can concentrate on marketing, education, client setup, projects and the more unique situations. I grew the business slowly and with intention.
