Happy Holidays everyone! I have a client that is being bombarded by scam calls to her cell phone. At the conference, there was mention of apps that may be useful in blocking some of those calls. Any recommendations?

    Try nomorobo.com

Happy Holidays to you and to all the DMMs!

Ditto what Leah said. I also use Nomorobo. Tell your client to keep the app open as it constantly updates the numbers it blocks. I block and send to voice mail. Rarely get a voice mail. They just hang up.

Nomorobo also can be set up with “land lines” that are VoIP based (Verizon FiOS, Comcast, etc.). The way it works with these is that the callerID info (which is sent between the first and second ring) is routed to both the home phone and Nomorobo and if it detects a number in the database, it dumps the call — resulting in calls that only ring once and quit. Has worked really well for a client of mine.

I initially used VZW version. Then went to nomorobo. Now VZW is offering at a lower rate than nomorobo. So I went back.

Nomorobo is free for landlines but there is a charge for cell phones. With landlines, the call is cut off after one ring so I have gotten into the habit of not reaching for the phone until after one ring. It works about 85% of the time. The scammers are figuring out ways around this unfortunately. I also instruct my clients that if they don’t recognize the caller ID not to answer the phone which is only successful with clients who can follow that instruction.
