Looking into some of the systems that are out there, in order to set up a separate business phone besides my cell number. I like the features I’ve heard of with professional voicemail and forwarding to my cell.
I have been using Line 2 for years, and I like it. It is similar to Google Voice in that you have your own number, but it works from an app on your cell phone and can ring through to your personal number if the app is not on.
I especially like that it is also an app on all my devices, including my desktop, where I can text and call from my computer.
Google voice is free and allows you to forward to multiple phones. You can set different voicemail messages based on the number that is calling you. You can also have it transcribe the voicemail and send it to you as a sms or an email. Google voice does a good job of detecting spam callers. With an obihai adapter, you can hook up a phone/answering machine and make outgoing calls.
Another option would be a MNVO cell phone company such as TING https://ting.com/rates. I happened to get on a $5 month plan with Puretalkusa.com so I can use that as my business phone.
It might be cheaper to add an additional line to your current cell phone plan.
Google Voice works well for me. I have it tethered to my cell phone. I like the call screening feature where you can take the call or send to voicemail. Plus its free.
I have used Google Voice since before it was purchased by Google. I will say that sometimes when I had it ringing both the landline and a cell, that it wouldn’t always ring both devices. Other times I had it go to vmail without ringing the phone first. I have not noticed any issues in the past six months or so. I have not missed any calls (they go to vmail if the phone doesn’t ring), but I take it as a no-cost option and am willing to have quirks now and then.
