    Good Evening,

For those DMM’s that use Quicken, which reports do you find most helpful and easier for the client to understand? There are several reports in Quicken. The client is interested in seeing a monthly Budget, Savings plan and Debt Reduction plan. I want to provide them with reports that are easy for them to understand.

    Thanks,

    Danielle

I usually do the cash flow report by month (Income and Expenses by Category) after removing the inter-account transfers. This is helpful to see the expenses by month (and to relate to monthly budgeted amount). Also gives the big picture on whether income covers expenses. Running an Income and Expenses by Payee can also be helpful to see where costs can be contained by looking at what payees are getting money each month and how much.

I use the Budget to Actual report. This is the “foundation report” I provide my clients monthly or quarterly. It helps keep them “on track” and provides a good report for allowing consistent interaction with clients. In December or so we discuss and/or finalize the annual budget for the upcoming year. Then each month they receive a report with a cover email with report highlights. Some clients prefer to read the cover email.

For a few clients who don’t have budget concerns, I produce a monthly or quarterly Income and Expense Report.

I also produce a quarterly Financial Statement. But, I do this using Excel. Rather than Quicken. Building Net Worth is key to many clients.
