    Greetings DMM colleagues!

The AADMM Public Awareness/Public Relations committee is looking for your ideas on what you think should be included in a 12 month Financial Calendar.

We have been publishing articles over the past 2 years on a variety of topics and also promoting this content on the AADMM Facebook page. Our next article on “The Benefits of a Financial Calendar” is scheduled to be published in Dec. 2018.

For each month in 2019, we would like to publish a post on Facebook that includes some financial dates (such as Jan. 15th 4th qtrly estimated taxes due) as well as financial activities such as January is a good month to review holiday spending receipts; or Jan is the time to organize 2018 financial documents to prepare for tax season. We’re not planning to include all of the specific financial dates each month, but rather this will be an opportunity for readers to get ideas on what they might include on their own financial calendar.

Here’s where we need your ideas: are there special dates and/or financial activities that you would like to see included in a financial calendar? Or maybe you have ideas about specific financial activities that would fit best during a specific month. If so, please feel free to respond here on the forum or email me directly at barbara@marysdaughterllc.com and I will pass along your suggestions to the committee. Thanks so much!!

    Barbara,
I think this is a fantastic idea. I’m not entirely clear if this will be an article for distribution or an actual calendar that AADMM might publish for members to share with clients and their families, potential clients, general marketing about AADMM, etc.

I know there are several dates during the year where it is Financial Awareness Month, Week or Day; things like that. It would be great to include those kinds of things as well as tax planning deadlines (Apr 15, Oct 15), quarterly taxes due, property taxes due (is that standard across the country? in Calif. it is Nov 1 and Feb 1 with an extention period to Dec. 10 and Apr 10. (Have I gone far afield from your premise?

I look forward to seeing what this looks like as the committee collects as the info.

I’m wondering where the articles you mention above are published besides on Facebook. Have any been published in magazines or newspapers where we can get reprints?

Thanks so much for letting us know about this. Looking forward to seeing you at the conference!

    Natalie,

Thanks so much for your enthusiastic response and support! You are pointing out a major flaw that will need to be corrected, which is how DMMs and others can access the articles being written by our committee. Currently they are located under “Press” which is one of the Menu options on the AADMM website; but then you need to click on “News & Press Release” to access the articles. As I was just looking at this, I see a couple articles are actually under “News” while the rest are under “Press Release”. Here’s a list of the articles so far:

    Press Releases
Financial Goals for the New Year & Tax Prep Tips
Identify Theft Prevention: Tips & Resources
Top 10 Financial Organizational Tips For Peace of Mind
The 5 Pillars for a Strong Financial Literacy Foundation
    Taking Charge of Your Credit
SCAMS – How to Protect Yourself and Loved Ones from 6 Common Types

AADMM has sent notices out to the membership about the articles which can be shared with clients, referral partners, etc. but some people miss the announcement and don’t know where to locate the articles on the website. Thanks for your ideas and suggested dates for the Financial Calendar. The plan is for this to be an article about the benefits of using a calendar to remind people of important financial dates, and then be able to do a social media post on a monthly basis with those reminders for each month. There is no physical calendar, but hopefully it prompts readers to put some of the financial dates/deadlines that are relevant to their situation on their personal calendar. AND also raise public awareness about AADMM 🙂

Looking forward to seeing you at the conference as well Natalie. It’s always fun to get together in person!!

Certainly healthcare enrollment is one in the fall. Clutter cleanup month would be another.
FAFSA deadline is another. College application deadlines maybe.
Tax return deadlines. Insurance checkup month. Retirement month. America Saves month.
Mostly topics for the month but some have specific deadlines or dates.

    Barbara –
Dates and reasons to consider including Financial Calendar: (Obviously the dates for 2019 may need to be adjusted for calendar year 2019.)
January 1: This is the very first day to fund traditional and Roth IRAs and Simplified Employee Pension Plan (SEP) IRAs for the current year.
January 29: The IRS starts accepting tax returns.
March 31: Many flexible spending account (FSA) plans with a use-it-or-lose-it rollover rule set today as the deadline to submit claims for eligible medical expenses completed by December 31 of the previous year.
April 1: Following the calendar year in which you turn 70½, this is the date you must start taking required minimum distributions (RMDs) from your traditional IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other applicable retirement savings plans.
April 17: Last day to fund last year’s traditional or Roth IRAs or the date you filed.
April 17: Deadline to fund a health savings account (HSA) for the prior year or the date you filed.
Sometime between October 1 and November 1: Your employer will start announcing the upcoming open enrollment period to choose your workplace benefits for the next year.
November 1: Start of enrollment for health insurance through Healthcare.gov.
December 31: Deadline to set up most types of retirement accounts so that eligible contributions count toward the current year.

I second Natalie’s sentiment about reprints. Please let us know if this does become a possibility.

Social Media comment: April Financial Literacy Month – post financial literacy programs around the US. You could include AADMM members that volunteer or are involved with them.
December 5, International Volunteer Day- highlight all the AADMM members who volunteer in their communities.

    Another question for you:
If a AADMM member contributes to an article or other publication, is there a AADMM person to send the publication to then be posted on the AADMM social media page. The more activity and involvement by members and clients, the better.

OK, that is all I have for now.
Thank you for the opportunity to contribute.

One idea that I didn’t see is reviewing charitable contributions to make sure you don’t overextend or don’t forget an important one. I have some clients who constantly donate so I tend to give them a report in say October so they can make educated year-end contributions.

And yes, property tax payments are all over the place as far as when due. Most are in the fall for my clients. Perhaps there could be a reminder in July to check with your county to see when they are due and to ask if you can get an email with a link to the bill rather than paper in the mail.

Last thing…many of us and our clients have LLCs and other corporations. Most of these need to be renewed annually with the Sec of State. The earliest I see is GA in April, but it goes at late as NV in the fall. So maybe a reminder in March to check with your SOS’s office to see when your annual filings are due. I do a lot of them for clients.

    Thanks, Barbara!

Thanks for all your great ideas! The emails sent to me directly along with these forum responses will be shared with the Public Relations committee this week! Really appreciate your time. I’ve learned a lot just reviewing everyone’s responses, and will consider adding some of these ideas to MY financial calendar next year 🙂 Thanks again everyone. DMMs are Awesome!

Thank you for the great ideas! The FAFSA one now a reality for me with my oldest who just turned 18 and applying to colleges. This time of year clients who I work with in a synagogue are looking to pay their outstanding financial commitment by year end instead of our fiscal year end (June 30th). Last year was very hectic with the new law and we saw a huge increase with our members and prepaying their dues for the following year.
