Hello. I am just starting my own DMM company and signed up for the conference. I paid the extra for the Business Basics portion but wondering if I should switch to attend the QuickBooks portion instead. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

    Hi Amy.
I too am a new DMM just starting out (officially). I have used Quickbooks in the past and I’m using it now to track my own business finances. I have always used Quicken in the past for managing client data and will continue to do so.
So I would offer an opinion that if you are going to use Quickbooks for managing client data (and some DMMs do), take the class. If it is only for your own business financials, you probably have the time and space to learn as you go, so take the Business Basics.
Again, that is opinion. Your mileage may vary.
I guess what I just outlined here is the client always comes first. Do what you gotta do to serve the client best.
I’m signed up for the conference too. My first time. I hope to meet you in San Diego.

My 1st conference was last year. I would recommend taking the Business Basics. There is a lot of in class discussion about running a DMM business that I found useful plus it is more geared toward networking with fellow classmates then I would imaging the Quickbooks class is.

I’m very computer literate so it would not be hard for me to learn Quickbooks with online courses, Youtube videos and such. At this point in my business, I do not need the power of Quickbooks and I am not convinced that Quickbooks would be the solution as there are other alternatives such as Freshbooks.com or slickpie.com or even Quickbooks online.

Thank you so much, Steve and Joseph. I think I’ll stick with the Business Basics. I thought the same thing about learning on-line through classes, etc. Have a great day!
