I am looking for some information and ideas for hosting some short programs for senior centers, assisted living facilities and independent living facilities. My plan is to put together some content to cover about 20 – 30 minutes and follow it with some time for Q&A about both the program content and daily money management. Currently I’m working on some slides for simple steps that seniors can take to help better protect themselves from identity theft and fraud. My next topic is going to be how the new tax laws may affect seniors filing tax returns.

I’m looking for a few more topic suggestions, and am wondering if anyone has any power point presentations or other slides they may be willing to send my way on these or other topics.

    Hello Steven,

Great to hear that you’re planning to do presentations for senior centers and facilities! I’ve done a number of those and would be happy to share my powerpoint presentations with you. I initially started with the AADMM PPT about daily money management and then used information about fraud, financial exploitation and identity theft that I got from the National Council on Aging website https://www.ncoa.org/ The Public Awareness/Public Relations committee just met and we plan to utilize information from NCOA for AADMM’s campaign on Fraud during International Fraud Week in November and there’s a lot of good info on there as well (less specific to seniors tho) http://www.fraudweek.com/ I am working on a presentation for May 22nd so I’ve been reviewing my powerpoints on Elder abuse and other information which I’d be glad to share. My email address is barbara@marysdaughterllc.com I also have other topics I’ve done, such as having conversations with loved ones about finances, etc. I do like the tax topic you mentioned which is very timely. Looking forward to connecting with you. Also open to a phone chat as well if you prefer.

    Thanks!

Hi Steven, as a new DMM, I also created a presentation on On-Line banking and I’ve done it 3 times already. I’m not getting the crowd I was hoping so I’m going to change it up and at a minimum, make the title more ‘sexy’ 🙂 I call it “On-Line Banking” and my flyer has a dog scratching his head with the question, “Can this old dog learn a new trick”? I have gotten very low attendance unfortunately, and these venues normally attract a good crowd. Barbara, I’ll take you up on your offer as well. Steven, if you want my presentation, let me know and I’ll send it.

I have used the programs available via CSA. They have a table at the AADMM conference here. A very worthwhile designation if you are working with seniors.
